Engagement shoots are such a wonderful opportunity to introduce yourselves as soon-to-be newlyweds. They should paint the picture of your love story but also represent you both.

PRO TIP: These pictures can be used for your Save-the-Dates, wedding party proposal gifts, bridal showers, engagement party, or a slideshow at the wedding - before the ceremony or during the cocktail hour.

However, just like your wedding, you should think about what type of location you would like and the time of year you decide to take your pictures. Winter, spring, summer, or fall. Luckily, New Jersey has hundreds of gorgeous places to choose from. Beaches, boardwalks, universities (maybe where you met), parks, historical landmarks, sporting arenas, there are so many options. Note: Some locations will require a permit so you may have to do some research before.

Let's get to the list:

Jersey City, New Jersey

Located on the shores of the Hudson River, with the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island as the backdrop.

A special use permit is needed for all special events and special uses - including commercial photography. Permits can range anywhere from $60 - $200, depending on use.

Hoboken, New Jersey

Another location with fantastic views of the New York skyline which also has a great public park. As you can see, this is an amazing location for pictures during or around sunset. 😍

Asbury Park, New Jersey

Asbury Park has so much to offer. From the boardwalk, beaches, historical venues, games, and picture-perfect murals for the art lovers. You can truly make a day of it, after your engagement shoot you can enjoy some of the delicious eateries nearby.

Princeton, New Jersey

Princeton is the fourth-oldest college in the United States. The campus is adorned with gorgeous buildings and architecture that takes you back in time. Despite having 600 acres, there are some areas that are prohibited.

Hamilton, New Jersey

This municipal park houses 30 acres of botantical gardens. The beautiful garden is open year-round and doesn't require a permit for engagement shoots.

Note: If you are considering this location for your wedding or wedding photos, a permit is required for these events.

Here a couple of bonus locations right outside of Jersey that are also perfect.

New York, New York

This iconic urban park is a true NYC historic landmark which has been featured in countless movies and TV shows. Not only is it a park but there are baseball and soccer fields, a carousel, two skating rinks, a zoo, formal gardens, monuments, and venues. There is no permit needed for engagement shoots.

Brooklyn, New York

Brooklyn Bridge Park is nestled on the Brooklyn side of the East River. This waterfront park is open all year-round. Filled with various recreational activities and facilities, you will fall in love with the iconic cityscape and the beautiful promenade.

Engagment shoots or wedding photos require a permit if the group is larger than 20 people.
